Here it is again January, winter proper, mid summers
eve is but a distant memory. Every year at this time I stand staring
out the window, watching the gray, colorless, landscape that is
wintertime in Illinois.
It is at this time when the winter blues can slip into your head
and lure you into a long winter of despair.
But not I, The New Year brings new challenges and new adventure.
Winter is a time to harden your body and steel your mind. It is
when I take time to work on projects that get pushed aside in
the fun loving spring and summer months.
When it is to cold or wet to work in the yard or play some winter
golf, I will go to the gym to take refuge from the cold.
If I find my self getting bored watching TV I think I will spend
my time off pursuing artistic endeavors. This winter I will learn
new songs on the piano, I will write more, and probably tackle
another video project on you tube.
Keeping my self-full of activity helps me keep the winter blues
away. Only 60 more days and winter will have come and gone. Then
at last I can turn my attention to spring and, dare to dream again
of the coming mid summer’s eve.

Penguin escapes from zoo, but gets stuck in lions den.
Viral video from pomplamoose
BERLIN (Reuters) – A resourceful baby penguin took advantage
of Germany's wintry weather to give her minders the slip and
embark on a tour of the zoo before waddling into the lions'
den.
A visitor spotted the African penguin, born in September,
taking a stroll in the lion enclosure but the animal was lucky
as the lions were asleep inside rather than braving the icy
weather outside, Muenster zoo said on its website.
It took keepers a day to get the penguin out of the den,
luring her out with a trail of herrings, the statement said.
The escape gave the penguin, up to then only known as number
459, a name. Her minder now calls her Leona, the zoo said.
