First
Annual Jerry McIntyre
Memorial Golf Tournament
In honor of my husband, and our father, son, brother,
uncle, cousin, and good friend, Jerry, we are planning
a golf tournament fundraiser to benefit two of Jerry’s
many labors of love – the Holy Ghost/St. Francis
Schools and the Jersey Community Hospital Foundation.
Through the years he served on and helped guide both
the school and hospital boards and lent his construction
expertise to their numerous building projects. It is
our hope that you will use this method to assist both
of these organizations, which were dear to his heart,
and keep Jerry’s community spirit alive, while
enjoying a whole day of unique and fun “Jerry-inspired”
activities!!!

Lindsay Lohan’s e-Harmony profile
Mid
Summers Eve Gardening
Featured Video Presentation
The actress on this video does a really good job.
This video shows what a e-Harmony video profile might be like
if the real Lindsay Lohan ever wanted to do one. take a look and
see.
Ah yes here it is mid summer in Illinois. It is finally time to
reap the rewords from my hard work I did in the garden this spring.
My modest size garden is bulging over onto the lawn. Its leafy
green vines are burden with the heavy fruits and ripe vegetables
of summer.
Any day now I am looking to find my first red tomato, so that
I can walk out into the garden pick it from the vine and eat it
in the yard. There is nothing more tasty than a fresh vine ripen
tomato. This annual event marks mid summers eve on my calendar.
Once the red tomato’s start coming I know that summer is
half way over, and I begin to turn my attention to the next season.
This year I planted 6 tomato plants, 3 banana pepper plants, watermelon,
cantaloupe, and a Zucchini plant. This year was the first time
I planted zucchini, and it was the first plant to produce vegetables.
I picked my first zucchini in middle June, and I have been harvesting
them from the garden ever since, 3 or 4 zucchini a week.
At first we fried zucchini, then we made zucchini bread, then
zucchini salad, later I grilled, sautéed, broiled, and
baked zucchini. Here it is the end of July and I still have more
of the giant green vegetable to pick out of the garden.
After looking up zucchini on the internet I learned that there
are more than 500 recipes. I have no desire to try them all, but
I think I will start giving my zucchini away. If any one wants
free zucchini stop by Jerseyville Carpet and Furniture 1672 s.
state street, and I will load you up.
I am already planning for my garden next year. I think I will
make it a little bit bigger and try some new vegetables that I
have not grown before. Until then I will keep looking for my first
red tomato and I wish all of you gardeners out their happy harvesting.
And remember if any one would like some free zucchini stop by
the carpet & furniture store and I will hook you up.

2010 Jersey County Fair
Flying Donkey found and unscathed
The quintessential summer time event here in Jersey County is
no doubt the county fair. Every kid and school teacher knows that
the half way point in their summer vacation has been reached when
fair grounds open up for a week of pageantry, competition, and
carnival rides.
And lets not forget the food. Calories do not count on fair week.
This year I went to the fair on Friday night. I waited all week
to go to the fair and eat some carnival food. So after some careful
consideration I chose the Polish sausage over the always-popular
corndog. Then I washed it down with some ice-cold lemon shake
up. I did however reframe from indulging in a funnel cake. Instead
I bought some kettle corn to take home with me that night for
something to snack on days after the fair was over.
This year the fair seemed to be a little bigger than last year.
There were plenty of rides for kids of all ages. Games were abundant
and no matter what age you were there was a game for you to play
and a prize to take home.
The only miner hiccup organizers had this year was the weather.
The Sunday before the gates opened a powerful thunderstorm dumped
2” of rain on Jerseyville. And some time during the rainstorm
a giant longhorn bull escaped from the fairgrounds. Early the
next morning the giant beast was found grazing on the #6 fairway
at Westlake country club.
After the Sunday night storm the rest of the week was hot and
humid, and it did not rain again until the last day of the fair.
Congratulations to the folks who are on the fair board and to
all of the hard working volunteers who make the county fair possible.
I can’t wait until next year.
Ok here is another story that involves crazy Russians. Apparently
some time this summer a group of Russians got to gather and while
drinking vodka thought it would be funny to hook up a donkey to
a parachute and take him parasailing. So that’s what they
did. After photos of this beast of burden flying in the sky under
a parachute surfaced on the Internet the donkey has become famous.
However their was some backlash from animal rights people, who
were concerned that the donkey might have been injured in the
take off and landing.
So Thursday police from the southern city of Golubitskaya found
the highflying donkey physically unscathed after her trauma.
I don’t know who is crazier. The drunken Russians who rigged
the donkey up to the parachute, or the animal rights people who
was so concerned that they launched a police investigation.
